Metas AS has been in operation for ten years, with focus on three main areas of the subsea maritime environment: 

Research and increased understanding:

Through collaboration with universities and research institutes Metas has developed modular instrumentation and data gathering products that can easily be configured to meet project specific missions under the product family called X-Net.

Safety and environmental protection in oil and gas:

Through collaboration with subsea oil and gas producers Metas has developed a subsea monitoring system that incorporates advanced machine learning to detect and monitor oil and gas leaks at their earliest stage, the first bubbles, to enable operators to actively manage their risks and prevent catastrophic release of hydrocarbons to the environment. These products are the Wide Area Active Monitoring (WAAM) System and Near Area Active Leak (NAAL) System

• These systems are designed to aid operators in understanding what is occurring in their subsea fields and are able to differentiate between fish, natural seeps, ROV/AUV, fixed infrastructure, commercial fishing gear and oil, natural gas & CO2 emanating from subsea hardware through use of advanced machine learning.

Operational efficiency and cost reduction:

Through collaboration with aquaculture specialists and using our years of research expertise Metas is developing a product range that aids aquaculture facilities in reducing mortality rates, reducing chemical usage and therefore reducing operating costs while reducing the environmental impact of these facilities.
