Oil and gas mergers and acquisitions decreased by 14% in Q4 2022
In the global oil and gas industry, there were 460 mergers and acquisitions announced in Q4 2022, worth a total value of $53.1bn.

According to GlobalData’s Deals Database, the $11.9bn acquisition of Origin Energy by Brookfield Renewable Partners and MidOcean Energy was the industry’s largest disclosed deal.
In value terms, merger and acquisition activity decreased by 22% in Q4 2022 compared with the previous quarter’s total of $67.8bn and fell by 45% as compared to Q4 2021. Related deal volume decreased by 14% in Q4 2022 versus the previous quarter and was 24% lower than in Q4 2021.
Notably, foreign direct investment-related deals accounted for a 25% share of the global oil and gas industry’s merger and acquisition activity in Q4 2022, up 18% over the previous quarter.
