Never one to avoid the limelight or shy away from controversy, President Trump began his second term just a few weeks ago with a promise to fully utilise the US’s ‘liquid gold’. And there’s no reason to think he won’t build on America’s immense hydrocarbon power over the next four years. Offshore Technology looks at what might happen.
Taking a broader view, we look at the technical challenges facing the global oil and gas (O&G) sector, as the need to increase efficiency and enhance exploration becomes ever more important.
We also return to one of the industry’s hot topics and ponder whether the hydrogen economy is entering a critical phase of its development, with demand for this commodity is not rising at the pace it was envisaged back in 2020.
We also examine if O&G can maintain their place in the heart of the energy mix without a substantial improvement in decarbonisation techniques for their upstream operations.
