There’s little doubt that as the world tries to move away from its reliance on oil and gas, hydrocarbons will continue to be an important part of the global energy mix for years to come.

In this 100th issue of our digital magazine, we examine the use of renewable sources – primarily wind and hydrogen – and how they can be integrated with oil and gas operations. For example, the UK currently has 24 low-carbon hydrogen plants in operation with another 140 under development.

Oil and gas operators are also now exploring repurposing compatible infrastructure with offshore wind operators, while solar is increasingly being used in offshore platforms to power operations, as well as provide a backup power source for onshore facilities.

We also look at the UK government’s efforts to fast-track grid connections for clean energy projects, including wind and solar power, as part of its Plan for Change initiative, aiming for clean electricity by 2030.
